Sandy Glacet: Director

sandyPrior to her current position as Director, Sandy taught at SCC for three years. She holds a B.A. from Sewanee: The University of the South. Before Sewanee, she worked in France as a medical aid assistant teacher for disabled children. She has two sons, Arthur in second grade at SES and Alexandre in his last year at SCC. They are being raised in a bilingual and multicultural environment, an environment she fosters as the Director of SCC as well.

Ms. Em Holleman: Co-teacher, Toddler Class

emMs. Em is a graduate of St. Andrew’s Sewanee school. She came to SCC in 2015 as a part-time teacher. She quickly felt in love with early childhood education and became a full-time teacher in the explorer class. Over the summer she worked at a scout camp with girls aged 6 to 14. She is very happy to return teaching in the Toddler class. She is also planning on returning to school to get a degree in Early Childhood Education and/or American Sign Language Interpretation.

Ms. MaryEllen Dempsey: Co-teacher, Toddler Class

ms-dempseyMs.MaryEllen joined SCC in the fall of 2016.  She instantly fell in love with the children and knew she wanted to be a part of the SCC family. MaryEllen and her husband, Steven, live in Stevenson, Al.  Together, they have four children; Steven (Sarah Beth), Will, Holly and Hannah. They have one grandson,John Grayson, and will be welcoming a precious granddaughter in May 2017.      Prior to joining SCC, MaryEllen worked for Jackson County (Al) Board of Education and has taught Children’s Sunday school for 15 years.  She spends most of her time being a “soccer mom” as her kids have taken on all sports available.  In between sporting events, she enjoys taking on adventures with her family and Sunday school kids, nature and Bible.

Ms. Carrie Mauzy: Co-teacher, 3/4 Class

carrieMs. Carrie began working at SCC 31 years ago. First, she volunteered as a Room Mother in the 3 year old class where her daughter Jane was enrolled. Then, she became more and more excited about the work being done with children at the Center and started subbing in the 2 and 4 year old classes. The following year, Carrie was hired full time and has passionately pursued a career in early childhood education ever since. Her enthusiasm for child centered learning is grounded in evidence based research, and best practices in early child development. She is an avid supporter of the teaching philosophy put forth by the public preschool of Reggio Emilia, Italy. When not teaching, Ms. Carrie’s interests are working in her garden (wildflowers, herbs), hiking, crafting, and reading.

Ms. Makenzie Delenikos: Co-teacher, 3/4 Class

makenzieMs. Makenzie moved to Tennessee from Portland, OR in March of this year. She has over 10 years of aiding experience at the kindergarten level specializing in arts and crafts. She enjoys traveling, adventures and new foods when the opportunity arise. The children from the Tag Along class can enjoy her dynamism and enthusiasm, but also her creativity.

Ms. Christie Pierce: Co-teacher, 4/5 Class

christieMs. Christie began working at SCC 10 years ago. Her daughter Delana attended SCC when she was 4, and that’s when Christie realized it was also a place for her. Delana is now in 8th grade, and she still enjoys coming to SCC to visit. Ms. Christie has lived in Sherwood, TN her whole life, and has been married to her husband Tommy for 15 years. When she is not running Delana around, she enjoys reading, hiking, kayaking, and spending time with her family. In the classroom, she uses her talent as a reader to stimulate the children’s curiosity. She enjoys creating an environment that fosters discoveries and new adventures.

Ms. Sharon Tigner: Co-teacher, 4/5 Class

sharonMs. Sharon moved to the Mountain from Memphis two years ago. She has two daughters: Jessie is 22 years old and attends the University of Memphis. She started her student teaching residency in Memphis, and will graduate next May. Rachel is 20 years old, and a junior at Middle Tennessee State University. Sharon has been teaching Preschool for 18 years. She began when Jessie was 1 year old. She taught 4 year olds for 10 years at First Baptist Church and 3 year olds for 8 years at Central Church. She left teaching only to discover she was not happy in her new job. She realized her true passion was teaching young children, and she is very excited to have the opportunity to be part of the SCC family.
